Clarity Choirs with With Akabella Sunday 1 December 2019
A warm and friendly audience along with the beautiful acoustics of St Nicholas Church Winsley made for a fantastic evening of a cappella singing. Clarity massed choir (around 45 singers) opened the concert with a set of 8 songs from across the world including Corsica, USA, Argentina and UK. Then they were joined by Akabella for 3 songs: the uplifting Nowell round, a yoik for reindeer herders from Lapland and a rousing piece by Dave King (co-leader of Akabella) called Peace on Earth. The audience and singers then enjoyed a warm cup of mulled apple juice and stollen in the church hall. Following the interval the audience we treated to a set by Akabella leaders Dave and Lisa, and Clara; they sang O Come Emmanuel (arr. Chris Rowbury), Needle to North (arr. Heidi Wilson), Mravalzhamier (learned from Iberi Choir) and Winter Wonderland (arr. Dave King). Akabella came on stage to sing 8 songs. Although just 12 voices, they made a rich, full sound, full of energy. They sang songs from Italy, South Africa and England. To finish the evening off, Clarity Choirs walked on stage and joined Akabella singing I Pharadisi (In Paradise), a song from South Africa - a rousing, uplifting end to a very enjoyable evening. Thank you to all who came, and to St Nicholas Church for allowing us to use their beautiful space.
